Chitosan
What is it?
Chitosan is a natural product derived from chitin, a carbohydrate found in the shells of shellfish. It is chemically similar to the plant fiber, cellulose.
Therapeutic uses of supplements
Preliminary research suggests that chitosan can bind to fat in the digestive system and stop it from being absorbed. Chitosan is used to lower cholesterol levels and some evidence suggests that chitosan may be helpful in weight loss.
